According to the California Coastal Commission, most of the marine debris that we find on our beaches actually starts out as urban trash or street litter. Cigarettes, food wrappers, caps/lids, bags and cups are the top five pieces of litter found along our coastline. Litter harms wildlife and human lives, too.
